Spanish – Español

admin

At Knutsford the children in Key Stage 2 learn Spanish. Spanish is spoken by at least an estimated 350 million people around the world and is currently the 4th most commonly spoken language worldwide. Geographically, a large number of countries have Spanish as a dominant language. Knowing Spanish opens the door for you to communicate with 1/3 of a billion speakers worldwide!

Learning a foreign language allows our pupils to deepen their curiosity and understanding of the world and different cultures. It also allows children to express their ideas and thoughts in a different way and provides them with opportunities to improve their communication skills and ways of thinking. Furthermore it helps to widen children’s skill set to equip them for future employment and travel opportunities.

We teach our children to:

  • listen attentively to spoken language and show understanding by joining in and responding
  • explore the patterns and sounds of language through songs and rhymes and link the spelling, sound and meaning of words
  • engage in conversations; ask and answer questions; express opinions and respond to those of others
  • speak in sentences, using familiar vocabulary and phrases
  • develop accurate pronunciation and intonation
  • present ideas and information orally to a range of audiences
  • read carefully and show understanding of words, phrases and simple writing
  • broaden their vocabulary and develop their ability to understand new words
  • write phrases from memory, and adapt these to create new sentences, to express ideas clearly
  • describe people, places, things and actions orally and in writing
  • understand basic grammar
